JANUARY 2012 PROJECT UPDATE

Jan. 27, 2012 - TBWP just released its first project update of 2012, complete with updates on the Tulare Basin Watershed Initiative (which recently released its 2nd Quarterly Report), funding updates (new funding received from the Kenney Brothers Foundation and Edison International), news about the Tulare Basin Watershed Initiative website and a link to our nomination of Atwell Island for a 2012 Presidential Migratory Bird Stewardship Award. NRCS EASEMENT APPLICATION DEADLINE - FEB 15, 2012

Jan. 17, 2012 - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced its deadline for three very important easement programs. Deadlines for each of the three funding opportunities is February 15, 2012:

  • Grassland Reserve Program (GRP) – For private landowners interested in protecting their grassland. More info.
  • Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP) – For private landowners interested in protecting their grassland. More info.
  • Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) – For private landowners interested in enhancing, restoring or protecting their wetlands. More info.

 

TBWP AND BLM NOMINATE THE ATWELL ISLAND PROJECT FOR THE 2012 PRESIDENTIAL MIGRATORY BIRD STEWARDSHIP AWARD

Jan. 17, 2012 - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Atwell Island Project (AIP) has established new upland and wetland habitat in the most endangered eco-region in California, the San Joaquin Valley. The result of a collaborative effort by multiple agencies, non-profits and private landowners, AIP is a model for project implementation through partnerships. The project’s impact on Tulare Basin wildlife residents and migrants is significant – it restored marginal farmland with impaired drainage to mportant upland and wetland habitat in a region where only 3% of native uplands and 5% of wetland habitat remains. TULARE BASIN WATERSHED INITIATIVE ISSUES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS; TBWP RECEIVES NEW FUNDING

Oct. 5, 2011 - TBWP Watershed Coordinator, Kathy Wood, and Assistant Watershed Coordinator, Sarah Campe, recently reported on their first quarter of work under the new Tulare Basin Watershed Initiative. The work focused on outreach to the many stakeholders and partners in the ambitious three-year project, namely to the seven Tulare Basin Integrated Regional Water Management Groups. Learn more.

Also, the TBWP received new funding to support cash match requirements for the Department of Conservation's Watershed Program grant. The TBWP thanks the following for their generous support:

  •  The Pacific Gas & Electric Company - $3,000
  •  Bureau of Land Management - $27,000
  •  Wick Kenney Fund - $5,000

The TBWP would also like to thank the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) Central Valley Joint Venture (CVJV) and FWS Region 8 Migratory Bird Program for renewing $36,000 in annual funding to the TBWP to support the invaluable consulting services of Conservation Strategy Group, LLC.
